Kueishan’s school-wide “Used Shoes Save Life” campaign

The tenth-grade student government of Kuishan, held a school-wide "used shoe life-saving activity" in November and December of 2023. The student government and the tenth-grade students collected used shoes from students and donated all the materials to the "Used Shoes Saving International Christian Care Association" in Linkou. These supplies will be sent to the association's Bethlehem warehouse, allowing the Care Association to transport all the used shoes to remote areas in East Africa so that children can have pairs. These seemingly ordinary daily necessities can prevent children in rural areas of Africa from being infected by sand fleas, which can endanger their lives. This event aims to help improve the lives of residents and children in impoverished areas of Africa through material donations of second-hand shoes.

We promote this event through local social media, parent group chats, posters, and class promotions so that more people can actively participate. Not only did the students make actual posters and put them up in every corner of the campus,  the student government also posted the posters on their Instagram account to inform students about the "Old Shoes Save Life" campaign so that students could prepare in advance. To avoid the situation that some students did not see, some 10th-grade students went to various classes in Kuishan to publicize the main purpose of the used shoe life-saving activity and the donation instructions. With the help of teachers, activity information is also posted in the Kuishan parent group chat, so that parents can assist or help participate in the activities and bring a positive impact.

After the announcement, the 10th-grade students stood in front of the school gate on the morning of December 5th and December 7th, holding big bags to collect used shoes donated by students. On the last day of shoe donation, December 7th, tenth-grade students helped sort out all the old shoes during self-study class. We estimated that we collected about 280 pairs of children's shoes, 160 pairs of women's shoes, and 160 pairs of men's shoes. So there are about 600 pairs of shoes in total and about fifteen bags of supplies.

On December 9th, through the free time of students and parents on the weekend, we successfully delivered all second-hand shoe supplies to the association's Bethlehem warehouse in Linkou. The "Old Shoes Save Life" campaign was completed, allowing more African children to have a pair of shoes through material donations from Kuishan students.
