National Day Celebration at Kuei Shan SchoolEvent Date and Time: Oct. 9, 2024 (Wednesday) | 8:55 -9:45 a.m.

Under a clear October sky, students and staff from Kuei

Shan School’s high school and middle school gathered to

commemorate Taiwan’s National Day, or Double Ten

Day. Held a day before Taiwan’s birthday on October 10,

this annual event allowed students to celebrate their

patriotism and explore the country’s cultural heritage

through artistic performances, vibrant energy, and a

shared sense of community.

The ceremony began with the flag-raising, as students,

dressed in coordinated outfits and sporting flags and

festive stickers, took their places on the field. The Scouts

led the procession with their high spirits, proudly

carrying the Taiwanese flag to kick off the celebration.

The Headmaster then addressed the audience with a

brief speech on this year’s theme, Twined: Heritage with

Globalization, emphasizing the importance of preserving

cultural heritage while embracing a global future. The

celebration reminded students and attendees alike of

Taiwan’s rich history, marked by the 1911 Wuchang Uprising

—a key event leading to the collapse of the Qing

Dynasty and the birth of modern Taiwan.

One of the most poignant moments came when

representatives from each grade level from K to G12

offered a prayer for Taiwan, envisioning a nation that

honors diversity and unity under a shared future. The

ceremony continued with the national anthem,

performed by three talented music students, followed by

a salute to the flag. The Veterans Honor Guard

then engaged the crowd with an impressive R.O.C Drill

Performance, displaying precision and

strength.

The middle school students contributed a memorable

dance, forming a Chinese flag puzzle that highlighted

both artistry and national pride. Their joyful smiles and

energy captivated the audience, while one of the staff

members entertained with a lighthearted bowling

demonstration. The festivities concluded with popcorn

and sweets, symbolizing both Taiwan’s rich history (the

popcorn) and its bright future (the sweets).

This year’s celebration was a vibrant tribute to Taiwan’s

heritage and a reminder of our shared journey as a

community.
