For their Unit 1 summative, students had to create a blueprint of Kuei Shan and build a 3D model based on their blueprints. This particular unit explores the concept of cartography and how it shapes how structures are built in communities and cities. This project helps students experience what it means to create proportionate models based on their blueprint and investigate the functions of specific structures, especially their community.
Students had to first create their blueprints through the investigation of Kuei Shan through Google Earth and maps. They also had the opportunity to visit the campus to have a good idea of what they needed to build the structure. Next, they had to figure out the measurement using grid lines to create the models, a smaller version of the campus itself.
Students had fun using their imagination and creativity skills as they tried to create an exact replica of the model of Kuei Shan, which some managed to complete successfully.
