For the Grade 7 lab investigation on osmosis, students tested the effects of different salt concentrations on gummy bears. Students learned that when placed in higher concentrations of salt, the gummy bears decreased in size and mass as a result of water leaving the gummy bear through this process.
As part of this investigation, students wrote comprehensive lab reports; including their hypotheses, procedures, data tables and graphs, and resulting conclusions.
G8 Students have been learning about the relationships in thermal energy transformations and how they are essential in building sustainability and decreasing human's impact on the environment. Recently, they have discovered that chemical changes are also related to energy: Burning of various matter releases heat energy! They explored reactions with hydrated copper sulfate, practicing their lab safety with fire and chemicals use.
