In a nation with high and rising elderly population, concerns of elderly welfare extend into each and every family. As part of their design class, grade 10 students are approaching the design challenge of designing a home for when their parents are 80 years old. Taking into consideration of common elderly health issues and individual family challenges, students turn to SketchUp to mock up how their home space can best serve the needs of their parents in the future.

As part of many architectural projects, the community is welcomed into the design process to give feedback to the designers work. Stepping in both as peers and community members, students reviewed each other’s work and provided valuable feedback. After the community open house, Ethan W reflected on how he feels he need to completely change his design, which appropriately reflects the contingent “Developing Ideas” step in the design cycle where designers require much flexibility in seeking the best version of their design.
