From February 20th to 22nd, Graduating’s Origin was fortunate enough to visit Jingpu Elementary school for the purpose of helping the students build up a yearbook and also to take family photos for them. The purpose of the mission trip constituted of allowing club members to expose themselves to more diverse social groups and people of different living circumstances, but most importantly, it centralised around the sentiment of memory and family. We wanted to help the students of the Jingpu Elementary school to have something to look back on, a memorabilia of their time as students so that even when they grow up and enter society, they can have a reminder of their childhood. The option of taking family photos was then to provide the students an opportunity to unite with their family, but to also physicalise that moment where in all of their difficulties, a reminder of familial love can be found through an image.
Through this mission trip, all members of the club utilised skills of socialising, photographing, and most important of all being able to understand the people there. We experienced their culture through music, observation, and stories. From the experience that was collected and the images that were taken, we hope to reciprocate the welcome we received from Jingpu into a memorable yearbook and family photos and furthermore extend our service into a long term partnership to cater to the needs of Jingpu.
