Young Farmers is a G6 service club modeled after the 4-H youth leadership organization, scouting, and our school’s historical “education-is-life-itself” pedagogy.
Students, with some teacher’s support, led their classmates in conducting service projects. Violet, Jayden, and Maddox’s group led the club in upkeeping our campus environment. Jason’s group lead the club in building trellises for the G5’s gourd garden.
Parker’s group helped organize a visit to the kindergarten where we performed several hymns for the Pre-K students. The Pre-K students thoroughly enjoyed having more senior students visit them and also sang two songs in return.
In another recent service project, students learned about the natural function of moss before scrubbing off the school’s wall that’s covered with moss. One student asked “if moss is so beneficial for the environment, why are we getting rid of it?” - clearly the relationship between humans and our natural world is complex. We are proud to see our students so willing to engage in service activities with our beloved school community.
