“Overtime, Overspace, and Ever Growing” is this year’s arts and design exhibition for 10th grade students. It showcases the students’ work for their E-assessment portfolios and serves as the culminating event as Grade 10s approach the ending of their 5-year MYP program.
The exhibition was entirely curated by grade 10 students, which was divided into several roles, including two head curators, two layout designers, and two graphic designers. As one of the graphic designers, I will elaborate on the preparations and planning we did for the graphic design aspects.
Valencia and I were responsible for designing the posters, exhibition cards, and the brochure, as shown in the pictures below. Additionally, I designed the logo that appears on the exhibition cards and the brochure, reflecting the title “Overtime, Overspace, and Ever Growing,” which the curatorial team had discussed during the beginning of the planning. The title also represents how the 10th-grade students have learned and improved over time and space during their five years in MYP, embodying the concept of “ever growing” individuals.
The official poster, designed by Valencia, is displayed at the entrance of the exhibition. The exhibition cards, placed in front of each student’s work, share a consistent color scheme of green and white to match the overall theme. The brochure design features green as to symbolize the “greenness” of Kuei Shan and highlighting the theme of growth in the exhibition. Thus, the front page of the brochure is a photo of one of the trees at Kuei Shan, while the back includes the names and projects of all designers and artists.
Overall, being part of the curatorial team taught me a lot about how to design and organize an exhibition. More importantly, I learned how to collaborate with other students and create a well-rounded conclusion for our MYP journey together.
