Imagine a sports team training tirelessly to compete in a field with no supporters and no noise. That was the reality for athletes in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and sometimes the case for student athletes.
For the current design unit, we are designing tifos, fabric banners typically used to support European football teams, to support our own Kuei Shan Rams.
As part of the weeks with/without learning, students visited the historical YongLe Fabric Market to purchase their own fabric. While a simple and everyday act, students got to practice the subject specific and social emotional skill of buying material from a raw material provider.
Although a seemingly simple and mundane field trip, students were observed stepping out of their comfort zones in communicating with the merchants and were visibly more invested in the progress of their tifo designs after the field trip. We look forward to seeing their designs!
