Exploring AI Safety at KSMUN IV 2023

In an era of rapid technological advancements, the topic of artificial intelligence (AI) safety has emerged as a crucial concern. While traditionally considered a topic for older students, our school's recent Model United Nations (MUN) event for students in Grades 6 to 8 dared to break the mold. By introducing these young minds to the complexities of AI safety, the event not only fostered critical thinking and global awareness but also ignited their curiosity and prepared them to be active participants in shaping our AI-driven future.

The heart of any MUN event lies in collaborative problem-solving and consensus building. Students assumed the roles of diplomats representing various countries and worked together to address the challenges surrounding AI safety. Through intense negotiations and passionate debates, they refined their communication skills, learned to respect differing viewpoints, and worked towards crafting sustainable solutions. The event aimed to instill in them the importance of collective responsibility and global collaboration in shaping AI policies and regulations.


Additionally, it is worth acknowledging the outstanding efforts of the Grade 9 students who organized this remarkable MUN event. Their dedication, leadership, and organizational skills were instrumental in creating an engaging and impactful experience for the younger participants. Through their hard work and commitment, they demonstrated the potential of young individuals to take on responsible roles and contribute meaningfully to addressing global challenges. The Grade 9 students showcased their own abilities and served as role models for the younger students, inspiring them to take on leadership positions and make a positive impact in their own communities.


Overall, this MUN event served as a transformative experience that opened new horizons for young minds. By discussing the potential risks and ethical dilemmas of AI, these students developed crucial skills, such as critical thinking, collaboration, and global awareness.
